Rihanna dazzles at the Met Gala: The best of the bunch at fashion bash

Hollywood A-listers joined fashion royalty on the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the Costume Institute Gala.

Bajan beauty Rihanna was the pick of the best bunch, rocking a black backless crocodile dress from Tom Ford’s Autumn 2012 collection to the bash in NYC.

She dazzled in the elegant yet edgy number at the do to celebrate the opening of the Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations exhibition.

It was Rihanna, however, who pulled the evening’s trump card: the pop singer came late, moments after the red carpet closed, in a body-hugging Tom Ford gown, an alligator skin in black with some major fingernails to match.

If anyone could take black alligator skin and make it work as a body-hugging gown (rather than a watch strap or a briefcase), it’s our girl Rihanna. This Tom Ford number at the Met Gala is sexy without being slutty—even the dip in the back doesn’t reveal anything inappropriate, which is a new one for this singer. But we like it. Less is definitely more in this case.

Rihanna was one of the last stars to arrive at the Met Gala tonight, and boy did she not disappoint. We’re used to Riri rocking wild outfits, but this look was chic and refined. The black Tom Ford gown hugged her body in every right way, the neck line was simple and classic and the conservative long sleeves tossed attention to the sexy cut of the back. She kept her hair up and simple and her heels sky-high. We always expect the unexpected with Rihanna, and this move was no different. Her look tonight was timeless and glamorous but still totally her own

Rihanna Does The 2012 Met Gala In True Rihanna Fashion

Many of the stars in our music galaxy collided on Monday night (May 7) at the 2012 Costume Institute Gala at New York’s Metropolitan Museum Of Art. Some reflected on the evening with great reverence, such as Glee‘s Lea Michele who tweeted, “So honored to be here at the Met Ball with the amazing and inspiring Diane Von Furstenburg.” Rihanna, on the other hand, had quite a different outlook on the evening.

While RiRi donned a stunning black Tom Ford dress and Louboutin heels for the event, she put her true thoughts bluntly on Twitter: “Met sh*t”. Just chock that up to one of the many reasons we love the “Where Have You Been” singer — nothing fazes her: not hanging with Valentino Garavani at the Met Ball, not the glitz and glamor of a high profile event and certainly not repeatedly patting her “Birthday Cake” on SNL.

Rihanna wore a floor-length crocodile gown by Tom Ford as she strutted down the red carpet in a pair of demure Christian Louboutin heels. The Bajan beauty was the picture of seduction, even stunning from behind with a slit and deep back-V, which rendered her the rebel of the ball.

Best Dressed List: Rihanna

Taking a cue from her latest music video, Rihanna vamped it up in a sexy form-fitting black gown by Tom Ford that fit the songstress like a second (alligator) skin. While the front of the dress was demure, the back dipped low to show off RiRi’s stream of stars back tattoo. The Barbadian beauty paired her sleek gown with a funky updo piled up high on top of her head and classic makeup.

While Rihanna’s floor-length dress may not be as skin-baring as some of her other red-carpet numbers, this black reptilian-inspired Tom Ford creation was still a serious statement maker. The daring back drop and leg slit ensured that there was just enough sexiness, but the real treat was getting a zoomed-in look at the dress’s crocodile-meets-lizard-skin texture. It was positively exotic, and the slick second-skin effect hugged her every curve. The only other accessory? Black talon-like nails, which she said made the prepping process a lot longer.

Superstar songstress Rihanna gave us a surprisingly tame–but still super sexy–look at the 2012 Met Ball held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Rihanna donned a skin-tight, black Tom Ford gown, which looked totally conservative from the front, but gave us some sexy with a low cut back. Now that friends, is called, SexyBack. Yes, I did just make a 2006 JT joke. I’m also really loving her hair. We’ve seen this style from her before, but it really gives her a funky look.

A classic cut on the pop star, but in a pretty texture, and of course, she kept it edgy with her nails and hair.
